Buchanan Lookout Recreation Site provides access to a historic fire lookout tower situated in the Selkirk Mountains near Kaslo in southeastern British Columbia. The site serves as a trailhead for routes leading to Mount Buchanan summit, where visitors can explore the restored lookout structure offering panoramic views across the Kootenays, including Kokanee Glacier, the Purcell Mountains, and Kootenay Lake. The approach follows a gravel road with switchbacks and rocky sections through forested terrain. Users should exercise caution on narrow portions of the route and watch for fallen trees or debris.
