Recreation
Hikers and mountain bikers can take advantage of the nearby Middle Fork National Recreation Trail, as well as the Indigo Springs Loop and Chuckly Springs Trail. The Diamond Peak wilderness is also located nearby with several hikes into undeveloped areas on the forest. Fishing in the Middle Fork is another great option, if you follow local regulations.

This campground has one communal bathroom and regular trash service. There is no potable water available.

This small campground is located right alongside the beautiful Indigo Springs. Nearby old growth forests, as well as scenic views of Chuckle Springs, the Middle Fork River, and the Diamond Peak Wilderness make this a wonderful place to get into nature.

Overview This location has seven reservable sites and the rest are available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Sites must be reserved online five days before the start of the reservation. Any sites that have not been reserved can be used as first-come, first-serve, but users must be prepared to move sites within the campground if a reservation holder arrives and to claim the site. Recreation Two short hiking trails are available within the campground and fishing is available in the nearby Middle Fork River. Other opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding are available nearby at places such as Young's Rock, Chuckle Springs, and Indigo Springs, or along the nearby Middle Fork National Recreation Trail. Facilities The campground has two communal bathrooms, regular trash service, and potable water available via handpump. Natural Features This campground is on the bank of the Middle Fork River, surrounded by towering Douglas fir and pine trees. Many peaks and springs are nearby and offer scenic vistas. WARNER MOUNTAIN LOOKOUT
Overview Warner Mountain Lookout is the winter wonderland destination for avid winter sports enthusiasts looking for a challenge. This replica of an old cupola-style lookout sits on a high vantage point of Warner Ridge at an altitude of 5,300 feet in the Willamette National Forest approximately 75 miles southeast of Eugene, Oregon. This is a very remote location; the road to the lookout is not plowed or maintained for winter travel. The lookout can only be accessed by skis, snowmobiles or snowshoes, a distance of 2-10 miles. Conditions on the mountain change rapidly. You need to be evaluating conditions and weather throughout your stay. Sudden storms and high winds may make skiing and driving conditions difficult. Experience in cross-country skiing or snowshoe travel is highly recommended. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities. The reward is worth the effort of getting there. Guests will enjoy panoramic views of the pristine snow-covered landscape and starry skies on clear nights. Recreation Winter recreationists can enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling on the terrain in the nearby Middle Fork Willamette River - Moon Point Trail Area. Reaching the cabin on the 10-mile access road is part of the snow sport fun. Visitors might also catch a glimpse of any number of wildlife that lives in the area. Facilities The 14x14-ft. cabin sits atop a 40-foot tower and is surrounded by a catwalk. The cabin accommodates 4 people and is furnished with one double bed that comfortably sleeps two, a table and chairs, propane stoves for heating and cooking, cookware, dishes, and a broom and dust pan. Propane is provided. Cell service may be available from the tower depending on your service provider. There is a vault toilet nearby. No water or electricity is provided. Guests typically melt snow for their supply of water for drinking, cooking and washing. A large pot is provided for this purpose. Items such as bedding, extra mattresses, flashlights, matches, extra toilet paper, first aid supplies, trash bags, dish soap, and towels are not reliably available after mid-season. Guests are expected to pack out their trash and clean the cabin before leaving. Absolutely no pets are allowed. Natural Features The lookout towers over forest cover of noble fir, mountain hemlock and silver fir at the crest of Warner Mountain. The lookout is close to Middle Fork Willamette River - Moon Point Trail Area, with a diverse habitat ranging from meadows to rocky cliffs and dotted with high-elevation conifers. Willamette National Forest offers prime habitat for such species as Roosevelt elk, black bears, bald eagles, black tail deer and bobcats, among other wildlife.

Overview Campers Flat is on an open river terrace below Forest Road 21. This small campground is a group site situated in a beautiful setting under Douglas-firs and Ponderosa pines. The dynamic Middle Fork of the Willamette River almost eliminates the sound of traffic passing along the road. Popular activities are fishing and hiking, or mountain biking the Young's Rock Trail, which ends on the other side of Road 21 from the camp. Recreation This campground is ideally located for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. The Middle Fork National Recreation Trail can be accessed just outside of the campground, as well as the Young's Rock trail. Chuckle Springs and Indigo Springs offer other opportunities nearby, and in the right season fishing is available in the Middle Fork as well as the nearby Hills Creek Reservoir. Facilities The campground has one small communal bathroom and regular trash services. Natural Features This campsite is located in a beautiful grove of Douglas firs, pines, and cedars. The Middle Fork flows along the side of the campground, and Chuckle Springs and Hills Creek Reservoir are short drives away. Overview This small campground is now a group site and is well-screened from Forest Service Road 21. The Middle Fork Willamette River is directly adjacent to some of the sites. Popular activities include fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The nearby Middle Fork National Recreation Trail cna be easily accessed from the campgound. Please note that special fishing regulations apply to this section of the Middle Fork; refer to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife regulations for the most up-to-date information. Recreation This site has diverse recreation opportunities located nearby that allow everyone in the group to experience the forest in their own preferred way. Activities such as kayaking, paddle boarding, and boating are available on the Middle Fork as well as Hills Creek Reservoir. Fishing opportunities also abound, but be sure to research the fishing restrictions for the local area before arriving. Nearby trails offer scenic views for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. Facilities The campground has one communal restroom as well as regular trash service. Natural Features This secluded campground has several well-shaded campsites along the edge of the Middle Fork River. The river as well as Hills Creek Reservoir offer scenic vistas, as well as the nearby Young's Rock, Larrison Rock, and Chuckle Springs. TIMPANOGAS
Overview Timpanogas Shelter sits on shore of its namesake lake at an altitude of 5,300 feet in the Willamette National Forest within the Oregon Cascades Recreation Area. The cabin was patterned after the old Civilian Conservation Corps 3-sided shelter and was built in 1991 with the help of a University of Oregon outdoor school class and the Walker Rim Snowmobile Club. The cabin is typically open from late June through late October. It is accessible by car, but the last 7 miles of the road are rough and narrow. Recreation Anglers enjoy fishing for brook trout and cutthroat on upper and lower Timpanogas Lakes, even though the lakes are closed to motorcraft. Canoeing is also possible on the lakes. Those not inclined to fish can enjoy hiking or mountain biking on numerous trails in the Timpanogas area, especially in late August when huckleberries are ripe for picking. This includes the Timpanogas Lake Trail, which starts at the Timpanogas Campground. The Diamond Peak Trail Area, Pacific Crest Trail and Diamond Peak Wilderness are also nearby. Facilities This rustic 15 x 18 shelter with a dirt floor is designed to accommodate 6-8 people and comes equipped with a sleeping loft, a table with benches and a wood stove for heat. A picnic table, campfire ring and pit toilet are located outside. Additional camping is available on-site for up to 20 people. Drinking water, firewood and electricity are not provided. The cabin does not have a cook stove or cooking supplies. Potable water is available from a hand pump at the nearby Timpanogas Campground until late September. Items such as bedding, lanterns or flashlights, matches, extra toilet paper, first aid supplies, trash bags, dish soap, towels and an ice chest are not available. Insect repellent is highly recommended. Guests are expected to pack out their trash and clean the cabin before leaving. Natural Features The cabin is situated in a mountainous and heavily forested area where it is possible to see Diamond Peak, Sawtooth and Cowhorn Mountains. Timpanogas Lake is just one of several alpine lakes in the area. Willamette National Forest offers prime habitat for such species as Roosevelt elk, black bear, northern bald eagles, mule deer and bobcats, among other wildlife. Nearby Attractions Trails for hiking and mountain biking are located less than a mile from the shelter.
