Overview From fishing to boating and hiking, campers and day visitors at Bumpus Mills enjoy hours of fun on the upstream section of Lake Barkley. Many bird species reside here, including golden and bald eagles. Don't forget to pack binoculars and a camera to take advantage of the excellent opportunities for birding and wildlife photography. Recreation The recreation area is ideal for hiking, fishing, swimming, picnicking and boating. Abundant wildlife includes wild turkey and deer. Facilities The small campground offers 15 sites with water and electric hookups. Other amenities include hot showers, a dump station, boat ramp and public marina. Natural Features Bumpus Mills is located on scenic Lake Barkley among wooded rolling hills. Lake Barkley is the westernmost lake on the Cumberland River, which flows westward to the Ohio River. Barkley lies parallel to Kentucky Lake, a reservoir that stems from the Tennessee River. Between both lakes is the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. Nearby Attractions Due east is Fort Donelson National Battlefield, which marks the site of the first Union victory of the Civil War. The Bear Creek Waterfowl Management Unit is a short drive south of Bumpus Mills.

DYERS CREEK

Overview Dyer's Creek boasts fantastic views of on the sparkling Lake Barkley in the wooded rolling hills of Tennessee. Whether it's a family picnic and a BBQ with friends, the recreation area provides the perfect setting for a relaxing get-together. Recreation Visitors here enjoy boating, fishing, wildlife watching and swimming. Bring the binoculars and search for wildlife like the white-tailed deer, raccoons and bald eagles. Fishing is popular, and during warm months bass and catfish are abundant. Facilities The park provides a playground, volleyball court, flush toilets and a boat ramp. The shelter accommodates up to 100 people and 50 vehicles. Ample paved parking is also available. Natural Features Lake Barkley, the westernmost lake on the Cumberland River is connected by canal to Kentucky Lake, forming one of the greatest freshwater recreation complexes in the country. Between both lakes sits the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, the largest inland peninsula in the United States. Here visitors have access to boat ramps, many miles of hiking trails, wildlife viewing and off highway vehicle riding. Nearby Attractions Visit the Lake Barkley State Resort Park for miles of hiking trails and horseback riding stables.

Overview Dover is a day-use area that overlooks the lovely Lake Barkley. Whether it's a gathering of family or friends, visitors can enjoy nature at its best in one of the country's greatest freshwater recreational complexes. Recreation Boating, fishing and picnicking are popular activities at Dover day-use area. Wildlife including the occasional deer, raccoon or golden eagle, are commonly spotted in the area. Facilities The group picnic shelter accomidates about 35 people and 10 vehicles. The facility has lights and electricity and a water spigot. The lake is connected by canal to Kentucky Lake, a reservoir that stems from the Tennessee River.
