SWAN LAKE CAMPGROUND
Overview This recreation area is located near the village of Swan Lake at the north end of the scenic Swan Valley in northwest Montana. The campground consists of two loops. Ponderosa Loop offers open, large sites with plenty of space, while sites at Birch Loop are shaded and more clustered together. There is also a reservable group site which accomodates up to 100 people. Here, we have 38 rentable sites. 24 sites are reservable and 14 sites are for our walk-up visitors. The stay limit is 16 consecutive days. Recreation Campers and day-use visitors have access to a boat ramp and a beach. Both power and non-motorized boating is permitted. This campground also offers Kayak, Paddleboard and Canoe rentals and firewood for sale. Anglers can fish for several kinds of trout as well as Kokanee salmon and Northern Pike. Bike lanes wind throughout the campground. Facilities The campground has 38 family-sized campsites and large group site with paved parking areas, fire rings and picnic tables. Drinking water and vault toilets are available. There is no dump station at this campground but there is a fill station as you enter the park on the right just passed the Pay Kiosk. Some sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you want to move your reservation to a first-come, first serve (walk in) site upon arrival, you will have to pay for the new spot as you held a reservable spot that fellow campers were not able to book online. Natural Features In the heart of the Rocky Mountains lies the 2.4 million acre Flathead National Forest. Home to lynx, grizzly bear, and bull trout, with numerous lakes, streams and rivers to enjoy, the forest is the premiere destination for visitors looking to experience natural landscapes of the American West. Swan Lake is surrounded by dense conifer forest and the craggy, snow-covered peaks of the Swan Mountain Range. Nearby Attractions Glacier National Park is within an hour drive. About a mile from the campground is the Swan River National Wildlife Refuge, with a wildlife and bird observation area. Contact Info For facility specific information, please call (406) 210-8199. SWAN GUARD STATION
Overview Swan Guard Station is located next to beautiful Swan Lake, in northwestern Montana, where visitors enjoy all kinds of recreation. The fully restored historic cabin can accommodate up to eight people and offers somewhat modern amenities and plenty of space. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities. Recreation In addition to wildlife viewing, hiking and mountain biking trail access is nearby at Bond Creek Trailhead. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing are popular activities enjoyed by visitors during the winter. The cabin is located just south of the town of Swan Lake, which offers opportunities for fishing, motor boating, non-motor boating, swimming and picnicking. Facilities The accessible cabin has beds and mattresses to accommodate up to eight people. It offers electricity, but no indoor plumbing. A propane heater provides heat in the living room. A kitchen provides a refrigerator, sink, cooking range, and oven. It has ample cupboard space, as well as preparation and serving surfaces. A vault toilet and a hand-pump water system are available outside the cabin. Guests will need to bring bedding, food, flashlights, a first aid kit and other necessary camping gear. The cabin will need to be cleaned and all trash carried out before leaving. Click here for more cabin details. Natural Features The cabin is the oldest building in the Flathead National Forest. It was constructed in 1909 as a remote ranger station and has since been fully restored and reconstructed. It is located at the south end of Swan Lake, near the village of Swan Lake. ANNA CREEK CABIN
Overview Anna Creek Cabin is located 30 miles south of the town of Hungry Horse, perched above Hungry Horse Reservoir with sweeping views of the reservoir and the Great Bear Wilderness. Winter - Access road not maintained/plowed for wheeled-vehicle travel. Plan on winter access via a 24-mile snowmobile ride or other over-the-snow vehicle on an ungroomed route . The cabin provides a private setting to enjoy the recreation opportunities along the west side of Hungry Horse Reservoir. Recreation Summer - The cabin location provides a base to explore the numerous recreation opportunities along the west side of Hungry Horse Reservoir. Visitors can access the water within a short drive to Graves Bay, Graves Creek or Handkerchief Lake for fishing, swimming or boating. Access to hiking trails along pioneer ridge or the east side of Jewel Basin are in close proximity to the cabin. Other popular activities such as driving for pleasure, berry picking, wildlife watching, and fishing are abundant in the area around the cabin. Winter - The cabin provides a base for ample winter reacreation oppurtunities in the Swan Mountain Range. Please familarize yourself with the free winter over-the-snow maps available online, at the Hungry Horse Ranger Station, and at the cabin. Facilities This single story cabin is equipped with a propane cook stove/oven, 2 propane heaters, propane lights and accessible vault toilet. Indoor accommodations sleep up to 12 people on one double bed, two twin beds, two double/twin bunk beds, plus two twin roll out trundle beds. Outside, enjoy the campfire pit with barbecue grate and the deck on the south side of the cabin. No drinking water or electricity are available. Guests should bring plenty of water, bedding, food, flashlights, basic camping gear, tools to gather outdoor firewood, among other necessities. There is not a wood stove available at the cabin. Natural Features The cabin is set up above the West Side Hungry Horse Reservoir road providing privacy and scenic views. The west side of the cabin and large parking area backs up to the forest with Anna creek flowing through. The east side of the cabin offers open views of the Great Bear Wilderness. The site offers a nice mix of shade and sun. Nearby Attractions Summer - Water access to Hungry Horse Reservoir, Graves Creek and Handkerchief Lake are a short drive away. See maps.
