ABOUT: Cold Springs Campground is located approximately 16.5 miles outside of Yampa, Colorado with views of the Flat Tops Wilderness. This is a small, very popular campground with 5 campsites. The area accesses some great fishing and hiking, with a nearby boat launch at the Yamcolo Reservoir as well as 2 other reservoirs nearby. AMENITIES: 1 vault toilet, potable water, and each campsite has a picnic table and fire grate. No electric or showers. HIKING: This is a prime area as the campground is close to the Stillwater and Smith Lake Trailheads on Forest Service Rd 900. Paper trail guides for hiking as well as other information are available at the Yampa Ranger Station in downtown Yampa. DIRECTIONS: From downtown Yampa, take County Road 7 just behind the local General Store, (Montgomery’s Grocery) for approximately 6 miles. The paved road turns into gravel where it becomes Forest Service Road 900. Cold Springs Campground is 16 miles on the right side after passing Bear Lake and Horseshoe Campgrounds.

Overview Surrounded by mountains and nestled near the wilderness, the Shepherds Rim Campground at Trappers Lake has 15 scenic campsites. Located at 9,720 feet in elevation, visitors can locate this campground on the right side of the road as you travel south from the Trappers Lake Outlet area. Recreation Trappers Lake is known as the Cradle of Wilderness. At approximately 302 surface acres, the lake contains a strain of native cutthroat trout and the Colorado Parks and Wildlife operates a spawn collection station at the Cabin Creek inlet during May and June. Trappers Lake lies completely within the Flat Tops Wilderness; motorized boats and wheeled carts for boat transport are prohibited. Facilities Shepherds Rim Campground has 16 sites suitable for tents, trailers and RVs. The sites are equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings. Guests also have access to vault toilets and drinking water, but electrical hook-ups are not available. There is an RV dump station within the Trappers Lake complex. Natural Features In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the 2.3 million acre White River National Forest is a place of serenity and adventure, boasting eight wilderness areas, four defined seasons, and 10 peaks surpassing 14,000 feet in elevation. Wildlife in the area abounds. Bighorn sheep navigate rocky ridges and bull elk bugle at dusk. Scenic rivers sustain populations of cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout. Alpine regions provide habitat for pika and ptarmigan. These species, along with many others, depend on surrounding undeveloped wilderness, clean streams, and diverse forests to live. Shepherds Rim Campground at Trappers Lake is located adjacent to the Flat Tops Wilderness, offering a natural environment with many pothole lakes, surrounding glacier carved mountains, and access to trails and wilderness areas. Wildlife frequent the area and moose, elk, deer, marmots, pine marten, and an abundance of birds may be seen. DESCRIPTION: Located in the Gore Pass area on the Routt National Forest. Lynx Pass campground is a small campground hosting 11 sites and can be found on Forest Service Road 270 between the towns of Kremmling, CO and Yampa, CO (off HWY 134) The Lynx Pass Campground and surrounding area offers outdoor enthusiasts an opportunity to enjoy the simple pleasure of being outside. The campground is surrounded in lodgepole pine offering mostly shade, with a secluded, natural and primitive feel and can accommodate tents, campers, and trailers. This campground is popular for big game hunting in the fall. Hiking trails (30-minute drive to the Sarvis Creek Wilderness Area near Stagecoach Reservoir): Sarvis Creek Wilderness Fishing is popular at Lagunita Lake just a short walk from the campground. State Highway 134 can be accessed from either HWY 40 (Kremmling, CO) or from Steamboat Springs or Yampa, CO via HWY 131.
