Once a dairy farm, the site provides a base for walking into the surrounding native forest. Te Urewera is governed by a board and cared for by Te Uru Taumatua, Ngāi Tūhoe's operational entity. Adult campers pay $10 per night, while children camp free. The DOC Campsite Pass is not accepted here. Campfires are permitted outside fire ban periods, and drinking water is available from the stream.
