Tawhitokino Campsite occupies the far end of a secluded white sand beach within Tawhitokino Regional Park on the Firth of Thames coast near Kawakawa Bay. Managed by Auckland Council, this backcountry site is accessible only on foot at low tide via a 30-minute coastal walk from the Waiti Bay car park, making it unsuitable for campervans or caravans. The campground accommodates tents only and has no vehicle access, with stream water requiring boiling. The setting is backed by regenerating bush and farmland, offering safe swimming and seclusion. Bookings can be made up to six months in advance through Auckland Council.
