Parson Rock Reserve occupies a large site on the banks of Lake Aviemore in the Waitaki Valley, divided into two sections either side of the main entrance from State Highway 83. The campground provides basic facilities and caters primarily to visitors focused on fishing, boating and outdoor activities on the lake. Council-managed seasonal camping runs from mid-September through to early May. The sprawling layout offers an unpowered, traditional kiwi camping experience in a sunny and sheltered lakeside setting, with easy access to nearby Kurow and Otematata townships, walking and cycling tracks, and local amenities.
