About this campsite
Overview
Riffle Run Campground is in the heart of scenic Central West Virginia area near the Little Kanawha River and boasts 54 full hook-up sites and 6 primitive sites. This campground offers wooded and serene campsites without compromising any of the modern amenities such as a shower house and laundry facility.Β
Recreation
Relax in the peaceful and quiet campground, take a hike on the over 100 miles of trails, visit the numerous playgrounds, or take a bike ride. The marina also offers boat/jet ski rentals and food specials that will please everyone in the family.
Facilities
The campground offers 60 campsites, 54 are full hook-up with 50 amp electric service, water, and sewer and the other 6 have no hook-ups. Playgrounds and a bathroom that houses a shower facility and laundry facility are located within the campground. A boat ramp is availble just before the entrance to the campground and the marina is conveniently located near the boat ramp.

The campground is located at Burnsville Lake that is on the Little Kanawha River. The hilly, forested region lies at the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, just west of the Allegheny Plateau.Β The geographic features of this area make the trail system and recreation areas one of a kind with breathtaking views in a family-friendly environment.

Near Riffle Run Campground is the marina that offers boat and jet ski rentals as well as seaonal tours, the Riffle Run Left Fork Day Use Area, the Little Kanawha River Trail system, Burnsville City Park, and the Burnsville Veterans Memorial. In the town of Burnsville there are two convenience stores and a Dollar General as well as the Kreamy Korner Ice Cream Shop.

BURNSVILLE LAKE SHELTERS
Overview Burnsville Lake Shelters create a wonderful setting for daytime gatherings on Burnsville Lake. The six group picnic shelters are scattered across two ends of the lake. Shelters 1-4 are near the dam while shelters 5 and 6 are upstream near the inflow from the Little Kanawha River. Recreation The primary pastime at the picnic shelters, naturally, is picnicking. Activities like biking, hiking and fishing are also quite popular. Facilities The shelters are equipped with drinking water and a large charcoal grill; shelters 3 and 5 have electricity. All shelters are close to playgrounds and flush toilets. Groups with young children may prefer shelters 2, 3, 4 and 5, as they are nearest to playground facilities. Natural Features The reservoir was built in 1978 for flood control. Its beautiful setting between the Allegheny Mountains and Allegheny Plateau create a lush backdrop of steep hills. Nearby Attractions Take a trip back in time at the Bulltown Historical Village to get a taste of life during the Civil War era. The village and visitor center is nearest to shelters 5 and 6.

BULLTOWN CAMP
Overview Head to Bulltown Campground to experience the scenery and historic significance of this central West Virginia region. The large campground is on the edge of Burnsville Lake, just beside the Bulltown Historic Area. This spot occupies the site of a Civil War battle, where reenactments of the historic event take place twice a year. Recreation Take a trip back in time at the Bulltown Historical Village to get a taste of life during the Civil War era. Other activities include hiking, boating, wildlife viewing, fishing, hunting and picnicking. Facilities The campground offers nearly 200 campsites. Playgrounds and showers on located within each loop. A boat ramp is within the campground and a beach is about a mile away. Natural Features The campground is near the headwaters of Burnsville Lake on the Little Kanawha River. The hilly, forested region lies at the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, just west of the Allegheny Plateau. Nearby Attractions A trip to the Bulltown Historic Area Visitor Center is highly recommended. The Burnsville Lake Wildlife Management Area is due east. For camping convenience, two general stores are located within three miles of the campground.

GERALD FREEMAN CAMPGROUND
Overview Gerald Freeman Camp is nestled in the headwaters of Sutton Lake in central West Virginia, 70 miles north of Charleston. The area provides a wide variety of recreational activities, including boating, swimming, fishing and hiking. Recreation Anglers find plentiful bass, crappie, catfish and sunfish in the lake. The Elk River below Sutton Dam is well-known for its muskie and walleye fishing, and trout are stocked in the Downstream area. Fire roads and hunting trails in the surrounding lands provide great hiking and biking opportunities around Sutton Lake and at the nearby Elk River Wildlife Management Area. A variety of campground activities are scheduled throughout the summer for children of all ages. Facilities This large campground offers 156 campsites. 113 sites have electric hookups and 37 sites have full hookups. Boat ramps and a marina with a snack bar are located on-site. Younger visitors love the campground's playgrounds and basketball courts. Other facilities include hot showers, flush toilets, water fountains, and two trailer water / dump stations. Natural Features Sutton Lake covers 1440 acres as it winds 14 miles up the Elk River. Many quiet coves can be found along its 40 miles of shoreline. The lake is surrounded by rolling hills wooded with mixed stands of oak, hickory, poplar and cherry trees. Wildlife, including deer, turkeys, squirrels, ruffed grouse, Canada geese and other waterfowl, is abundant in the area. Contact Info For facility specific information, please call (304) 765-2267. Nearby Attractions The Elk River Wildlife Management Area contains nearly 18,000 acres of public hunting lands. The terrain is diverse and divided into the Elk River and Holly River sections. The Elk River section consists primarily of steep hills, ridges and benches, while the Holly River section is on the north side of the lake and consists of forested hills and open farmlands. Additional camping facilities are available on a first come, first served basis at Bakers Run Campground and Bee Run Primitive Campground.

Bee Run Campground
Overview Bee Run Campground is a small, but beautiful little campground located in central WV. The campground is three miles off Interstate 79 (Flatwoods exit). The campground features twelve primitive campsites suitable for RV's, Travel Trailer's and tents. The campground is surrounded by the Elk River Wildlife Management that has several hiking, biking trails to explorer. Also, the Sutton Lake Marina and Ship Store is located nearby, along with a picnic area, swimming beach and boat launch ramp. Recreation Sutton Lake offers opportunnities for motorized boating, and water sking. Fishing is available on lake, most anglers fish for large-mouth and small-mouth bass, and crappie. Guest can swim at the swimming beach located inside the day use area. Vistors can hike the Jeremiah Carpenter trail that leads them to the Sutton Dam North Abutment with wonder views of the dam. Facilities Each campsite has a fire ring, lantern post and picnic table. The campground has a volunteer host, vault toilets and security lighting Natural Features The campsites are located at the top of the hill and does not offer a lake view, but each campsite has a wonderful view of the WV hills and wildlife. The lake is in hiking distance for the avid hiker, but there is also plenty of parking for those who want to drive in at the day use area swimming beach and marina. Nearby Attractions Bee Run Campground is located in central WV and is surrounded by breath taking secenic views and full of history. The historical town of Sutton, WV has cobble-stone streets and local shops to explorer. The Bulltown Historic Area and the Flatwoods Outlet Mall are nearby.
