Overview
Panhandle Campground is set in a heavily forested area on the Pend Oreille River in northeast Washington. This small campground offers sites with views of the river, plus a swimming area right along the campground.Recreation
Canoeing and birding are popular activities. Small wetlands areas lie on the south end of the campground, attracting an abundance of birds. Excellent fishing opportunities for bass and trout exist in the river as well.Power boating and water skiing are possible on the wide, deep Pend Oreille River. Boating speeds are limited to 35 mph. A boat ramp is located on-site.
Facilities
Sites are suitable for tents and large RVs. Most sites are private and all are within a short walk of the river. Drinking water, vault toilets and picnic tables are among the campground's amenities.Natural Features
The campground stretches along the east bank of the Pend Oreille River. A thick middlestory offers good privacy between campsites. The Pend Oreille River flows north for about 130 miles into Canada and merges with the Columbia River. The beautiful mountains and valleys were shaped by glaciers in the Ice Age.The Colville National Forest encompasses 1.1 million acres in the northeast corner of Washington State. The forest's great salmon runs first attracted Native Americans to the area, then miners, homesteaders and fur trappers. Its variety of resources and natural beauty continues to attract visitors today.

South Skookum Lake
Overview South Skookum Lake Campground is a beautiful campground situated next to South Skookum Lake. It is heavily forested and plenty of shade and seclusion from other campers. The lake is relatively small and is not suitable for boats exceeding 20 feet. The boat ramp is small and unimproved. Two docks, one of which is accessible, are located near the launch area and provide fishing opportunities. South Baldy lookout, which is still staffed during the summer months, is visible from the campground and is a popular day trip. Recreation Camping, fishing, bicycling, hiking, kayaking, paddleboarding, & swimming make this a favorable place to visit. Facilities Each site has a table and fire ring. The campground has vault toilets, drinking water, animal resistant garbage containers, and animal resistant food storage boxes. No place to fill recreational vehicles only water jugs so be prepared to come with your rig full prior to arriving. Natural Features A beautiful forested landscape with South Skookum Lake beside it. Most of the campground looks into the Colville National Forest and the lake can only be seen once you crest a small hill which overlooks the lake. Nearby Attractions South Baldy lookout, which is still staffed during the summer months, is visible from the campground and is a popular day trip.

GILLETTE CAMPGROUND
Overview Gillette Campground is located directly across from Lake Gillette, approximately a quarter-mile from the lake's shore and surrounded by a stand of lodgepole pine and tamarack. Recreation Ample recreation opportunities such as hiking, bicycling, swimming and boating in nearby Gillette Lake are popular activities from this campground. OHVs are allowed to drive in and out of this park. Facilities Gillette Campground has 29 single sites, vault toilets and drinking water. Bear proof garbage containers are located around the campground loop. Natural Features This forested campground provides shade to many of the campsites. Gillette Lake is nearby and can be accessed by foot from the campground. A covered area with a large tree trunk is an interesting attraction along with access to Rufus and Springboard Trails.
