Awana Beach Campsite sits on Great Barrier Island Aotea in the Auckland region, managed by the Department of Conservation. The grassy sites are positioned between farmland and dunes beside Awana estuary, approximately 300 metres from one of the island's most popular surf beaches. Facilities include toilets, cold showers, a cooking shelter, tap water and picnic tables. The location offers opportunities for surfing, swimming and sea kayaking, with several endangered bird species inhabiting the area including pateke, New Zealand dotterel and banded rail. Visitors should bring mosquito repellent and note that Great Barrier Island has no public rubbish bins.
