Rock Shelter Biv

Rock Shelter Biv is a backcountry bivouac in the mountain regions of New Zealand, offering basic shelter for trampers. As a rock bivvy, it provides natural protection from the elements using an overhanging rock formation rather than a constructed building. These sites typically suit experienced trampers comfortable with minimal facilities and primitive conditions. Rock bivvies are common throughout New Zealand's remote alpine areas, providing emergency shelter or planned overnight stops on multi-day routes. To confirm specific location details, access routes, sleeping capacity and any provided amenities such as platforms or mattresses, contact the Department of Conservation or consult current topographic maps and tramping route guides before planning your trip.
