Waitohi Bush Reserve offers free camping within a native bush setting near Pleasant Point in the Timaru district. The site accommodates caravans and tents, and provides BBQ facilities, toilets, picnic tables and running water. Walking tracks wind through dense native vegetation including mahoe, lemonwood, kowhai and kanuka, with abundant birdlife and panoramic views across South Canterbury. The rare native climbing daisy can be found here. Access is via gravel roads which may be rough in wet conditions. Maximum stay is 14 nights, though the site may close mid-April to early spring for forestry operations. Dogs are permitted on leads.
