Kowharewa Bay Freedom Camping is a free waterfront site on the Tutukaka Peninsula near Whangarei, managed by Whangarei District Council. The site accommodates caravans and provides toilet facilities, with parking in designated areas indicated by signage. Tents are not permitted. The site operates from 9 February to 17 December each year, closing to overnight campers from 18 December to 8 February inclusive when it remains open for day visitors only. Stays are limited to one night maximum, and campers must move on if the designated area is full.
