James Mackay Campsite is a walk-in Department of Conservation site on the Heaphy Track within Kahurangi National Park. This Great Walk campsite sits on the edge of Mackay Downs in low forest, offering distant views of the Tasman Sea and Heaphy River mouth 15 kilometres west and 750 metres below. The site accommodates up to ten campers across five tent sites, with timber platforms available for pitching. Facilities include flush toilets, sinks, and tap water. Access is by foot or mountain bike along the track. Bookings and current pricing can be confirmed through the Department of Conservation.
